How often do I need to post content?
Question: – I have been following the free training that you suggested in Wealthy Affiliate and I have a question about content. Correct me if I’m wrong but is part of getting good rankings with Google about how often you make content? If so, how often do I need to post content? I can’t commit to making a post every day as I also have a full time job. Just wondering if a couple of posts per week would be OK?
Answer: – The frequency at which you post content onto the internet is certainly a factor. There are lots of things that will determine your search engine results. But yes, content frequency is one of those factors. One of the main things that you might have picked up from the Wealthy Affiliate training is that quality content is far more important than anything else.
If you can create two really good quality posts per week, then yes that certainly enough. Google doesn’t expect every blogger to produce a 2000 word article every day! Most people don’t have that sort of time to spare. If you are looking to build a successful blog online, then getting regular content on your site is a must. You can read more about how often you should post to your blog here.
Communicating With Site Visitors And Encouraging Engagement
Question: I have been blogging for quite some time now and have built up a small audience. I get quite a steady flow of people coming to my website each day but according to my stats most of my visitors are not returning. I understand that Google likes to see returning visitors and also likes to see engagement within the site. My question is how should I get people to keep coming back to my website over and over again? I know that great content will encourage my guests to return and I am working on that. Just wondered if there was anything else I could possibly do?
Answer: There are actually quite a few things that will encourage your site visitors to keep coming back to your website. The first that springs to mind is email marketing. Setting up a system where you encourage people to sign up to an email list is a great way to stay in touch. Normally you would give away a free course or E-book in exchange for an email address, but there are various ways that you can do this. Once you have an email list you can then send out a broadcast every time you publish something. This will give you a boost in traffic and show that your visitors are returning to look at your new posts. There are lots of other ways to get people coming back too, for instance social media sites. Sending out an update via Google plus, Facebook or Twitter will get some of your followers returning too.
Mobile App For Your Website?
One method that gets both on site engagement and returning visitors is having a downloadable mobile app on your site. Lots of businesses these days are having mobile apps created that keep them in touch with there following. The mobile app works in a similar way to email marketing, except the open rate for mobile apps is much better. The app is downloaded from your website by your visitors and then when you publish something new you can simply send a message directly to every mobile device containing your app. Having a mobile app created was quite an expensive task at one point. But now with the arrival of software applications like Mobimatic, things have changed quite considerably. You can now create a mobile app for your business or website with just a few clicks of the mouse and enjoy a fully functional mobile app within minutes. You can see some screenshots of the creation process in our Mobimatic Review.
WordPress Tags & Categories – I’m confused!
Question: – I started building a website a couple of months ago and have a few pages and posts written now. My question is how do I use the tags and category options within WordPress? I just read a tutorial and it has left me quite confused. Part of what I read sounded like I should use tags like keywords? Could you please explain how I should implement these onto my site?
Answer: – This is a great question and one that gets a lot of people confused. The thing with tags and categories in WordPress is that opinions have changed over time. Adding keywords within tags used to be a common practice. You would see some sites with tons of keywords under their tags section. Although this did help with rankings at one time, this is no longer the case!
Tags and Categories are really used to help with navigation around your site now. It also helps to create a sort of filing system for your website. The categories in which you put your posts are like folders containing lots of different posts or pages under the same category. Whereas tags are used to be more specific. A tag might be given to several posts covering the same subject or by the same author. You can learn more about the subject in our WordPress Tags and Categories post.
Backlinks – Do I need them and do they still work?
Question: – I keep hearing different things about building backlinks to make my website rank better. I’m pretty new to internet marketing and people keep telling me different things. I just want to know if building backlinks to my website is going to help or is it going to do the opposite? I really want to get good ranks with my pages and a lot of people tell me that building backlinks is a great way to get to the first page of Google. However, I have also heard that this can be a really bad thing for your website too! Should I be building backlinks or not?
Backlinks – How it used to be
Answer: This is a really common question and one that misleads a lot of people. Backlinks for those people that are unaware, are links pointing from an external website, linking to one of your posts or pages. Going back a few years this practice was indeed the way to get to the top of Google. The more links you had, the more popular google thought you were! The more backlinks you built, the higher you would climb and the more traffic you would get as a result. But that was back then!
Backlinks – What should you avoid?
When we share our webpages on social networks we are building links back to our site. These links are perfectly safe! However, the type of links that we generally associate with backlinking are not safe. People will tell you that they can build hundreds or thousands of links back to your site, giving you an online edge. This is simply no longer true! There are thriving businesses online that sell links and encourage you to become a part of their link network. None of them will do you any favors in the long run.
A common place for people to purchase links is from Fiverr.com. Although you will be told otherwise, these links are generally a bad idea. The reality is that Google no longer look at inbound links like they used to.
